March and onward: World Building Gallore!

johnrobinwall35Welcome to March!

Spring is not far away, revision for Blood Dawn is well underway, and here on the blog, in the theme of new beginnings the contributors for Epic Fantasy Writer will be talking about world building. This theme will go on for the next few months, a perfect companion for the World Builders 2.0 series which is currently running Mondays and Fridays.

I hope you’re enjoying the great worlds featured here and the thoughtful posts on epic fantasy topics from various voices in the genre. It’s been refreshing for me to see this blog become more collaborative, and I’m anticipating that there is lot of fun and growth ahead for 2016!

This month, you can look forward to posts about establishing big picture building blocks like time period and geography. Our contributors will explore map making, how geology shapes a fantasy world, considering weather, climate, environments like mountains, volcanoes, fresh water and ecosystems and how these effect the people, cultures, and creatures of a world. They will also look at how fantasy writers deal with time — be it past, present, distant future, alternate universe.

I’m also excited to announce our Tuesday “not on topic” theme, beginning next week. Occasionally, on Tuesdays, one of our contributors will write about something that differs from the month’s theme. We will follow different themes as we go, starting next week with LGBT issues in epic fantasy.

Hope you enjoy!
